Meaningful Image

My image is of my friends Brian & Judith, taken on a cold winter evening as a group of friends were relaxing in the warmth of my apartment to celebrate my birthday. This image is significant to me because it represents leisure time on a day off from work and school, old friends, and food (although not shown, the food was there as an important element to the gathering). My closest friends now live and are employed in different parts of the world. This means that we do not see each other very often; but, when we do, it is always beyond satisfying to hang out, catch up, reminisce about past exploits, and create new memories. This image, which probably looks unassuming to the casual observer, means friendship, trust, connection, contentment, and a link to the past (and future) to me.

 

Looking at this image of Brian & Judith from an outside perspective might not communicate how it is meaningful to me. The message people might interpret from looking at this image could be extravagant, a moment captured of two people enjoying the party, or two people enjoying a moment together.

 

I would not add anything to this image to make it into an artwork that helps others explore what is meaningful about it. By changing the image or reshaping it, would consequently change its meaning to me.
